Download the Clergy Application for Dual Covenant
At its March 13-14, 2009 meeting in White Plains, New York, Church Within A Church Movement voted to expand the opportunities for participation and membership in the Movement by offering the status of Dual Covenant to ordained clergy who desire to align with Church Within A Church Movement's Mission Statement, Working Strategies, and Theological Statement.
The status of Dual Covenant is not a second set of credentials for ordained clergy, but rather a way for clergy to have a new level of personal integrity with their own understanding of what it means to be a fully inclusive church in a Methodist tradition.
It provides a means to acknowledge support for a Movement that includes the full rights and participation in the life of the church of qualified people denied ordination in the United Methodist denomination because of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or inclusive-progressive theology. Dual Covenant also provides a means for allegiance to a progressive theology.
Clergy receiving this Dual Covenant are still bound by their primary covenant and the rules and standards of their credentialing denomination.
Church Within A Church Movement hopes that you will consider this Dual Covenant and join in the ministry of the Movement. As our Statement of Community Values begins:
The ministry of the Church Within A Church Movement, the Coordinating Team, and its members and participants, is fostered and protected by our mutual understanding of covenantal sanctuary. We welcome all participants and members and celebrate God's gift of diversity...
